Context about STEAP1 and STEAP2

STEAP1 (six-transmembrane epithelial antigen of the prostate 1) and its homolog STEAP2 are cell-surface metalloreductases that sit in the plasma membrane of epithelial cells. Both are overexpressed across several solid tumors — most consistently in prostate cancer — while their expression in normal tissue stays limited. That combination of tumor overexpression and an accessible extracellular surface opens a therapeutic window and makes them reachable by antibody- and cell-based drugs.

Interest now spans a range of modalities, from antibody-drug conjugates and bispecific and trispecific T-cell engagers to CAR-T cells and cancer vaccines. Programs reach beyond prostate cancer into lung and gastrointestinal tumors, Ewing sarcoma, and osteosarcoma, from preclinical work through late-stage clinical development.
