2012–2014
ImmuSmol's in vivo services
In 2012, freshly out of post-doc, immunologist Alban Bessede launched ImmuSmol, a biotech company developing antibodies against kynurenine-pathway metabolites for diagnostic and therapeutic use. Building on Alban's expertise in syngeneic tumor models treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors, ImmuSmol began to provide in vivo services on the side, to finance in-house R&D projects.

2015–2019
Launch of Explicyte Immuno-Oncology
In 2015, ImmuSmol launched a dedicated brand for its contract-research activity in immuno-oncology: Explicyte. Adding capacity in in vitro screening and immune profiling (flow cytometry, digital pathology), Explicyte expanded its services to become a full preclinical CRO. At the time, the company was located at the Biomedical Innovation Platform of the University of Bordeaux.

2020–2024
Pivot toward translational research
In 2020, the company moved to the Bergonié Comprehensive Cancer Center. Close collaboration with medical oncologists led the company to develop translational research projects and build a precision medicine platform. Scientific collaborations resulted in high-impact publications and team reinforcement with PhDs and MDs.

2025 onward
Multiomics & clinical focus
To reinforce its multiomics capabilities, Explicyte acquired the full range of 10x Genomics platforms in 2025 and became a certified 10x Genomics service provider. As a first step toward supporting clinical trials, the company earned ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certification for its digital pathology and histology operations — the foundation for developing and analyzing oncology biomarkers.

In 2024 we moved into a freshly renovated house next to the Institut Bergonié — a place for focused work, meetings, lunch, and social events.

We arrange day-nursery places for babies, and we keep working hours flexible to make life a little easier for young parents.
